Dear Parents,
During the weeks of August 29, 2022 through September 08, 2022, your student will take the computer-based assessment MAP® Growth™ from NWEA®. MAP Growth scores help teachers check student performance by measuring achievement and growth. The results will provide a more complete picture of what your student knows and is ready to learn—whether on, above, or below their grade level. Teachers use results to tailor classroom lessons and set goals for students. In addition, NWEA MAP scores will allow teachers to be able to:
- Gage the effectiveness of instruction, so necessary adjustments can be made,
- Identify students who are struggling to determine extra supports,
- Set goals for student growth and track progress, and
- See how students are performing against grade-level peers.
The NWEA MAP suite of assessments evaluate students’ progress toward the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) learning standards. Students in grades 6th-10th are administered assessments in Reading and Mathematics. Those in grades 6th-8th also take Science assessments. The suite of assessments are untimed with an approximate duration of 45 – 75 minutes per assessment. Each assessment produces an Individual Student Report (ISR) that includes an Achievement Level, which will describe the student performance as Below Basic, Basic, Proficient, or Advanced using a scale range of 140-300. Your student’s NWEA MAP Growth results are represented as RIT scores which assist in predicting the probability of STAAR performance levels {Did Not Meet, Approaches, Meets, Masters}.
We are truly excited to focus on your student’s individual growth and achievement. For more information about the NWEA MAP Growth test, visit: NWEA.org/Parent-Toolkit.
Looking forward to a positive and productive school year,
